Your Instructor

Prof. Joy Pi holds graduate degrees from Cambridge University (UK) and Stanford University. While pursuing her PhD studies at Stanford University, she co-developed language-learning technology, MapMyWord and VocabGrapher, which won first prizes from Google and was acquired by an educational firm in New York. While at Stanford, she also conducted interdisciplinary research, worked as a research and teaching assistant, took doctoral seminars at the Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Business, and the School of Engineering, and built software for language acquisition, literacy, and art. Her recent startup, with millions of users and App Store rankings in the top 20 in multiple countries, was part of Stanford StartX and funded by renowned venture capitalists in Silicon Valley.
Growing up in a family of International Math Olympiad medalists, Prof. Joy Pi enjoys math competitions and received full scores in quantitative standardized tests. She continues to be involved in the field of education while homeschooling and supplementing her gifted children who are Davidson Young Scholars. She also assisted as a room parent in the Stanford Math Circle Elementary program at Stanford University. Prof. Joy Pi applied her background in technology and education to form GiftedEd.org to broaden the scope of learning for gifted children. She also holds a certificate in Leaders of Learning from Harvard University. Prof. Joy Pi strives to create a supportive community of parents and learners through her roles as CEO and Instructor at GiftedEd.org.
